On Politics

By Jim no responses

It is said that one should avoid discussing religion and politics among friends. Indeed, it could be a "recipe for disaster". But as fearless chefs don’t always follow a recipe, though we are among you, our friends, here goes. Besides, we feel it is only right that you get to know us a little better and where we stand, particularly since that might be in your dining room one day. On Politics, neither comfort brother has allegiance to any party. We prefer the Dinner Party!

But seriously, philosophically speaking with regard to politics, the Comfort Brothers believe, like food and its preparation…

  • If it doesn’t smell right,
  • If it doesn’t sound right,
  • If it doesn’t feel right,
  • If it doesn’t look right,
  • If there’s no love in it…
  • It won’t taste right, and therefore,
  • It ain’t right—DON”T SERVE IT, DON’T PAY FOR IT, AND DON’T EAT IT!

Proper seasoning is ALWAYS important, for food, politicians and their ideas, programs and policies. Overcooking is always bad. Undercooking is worse. Extremes, as with temperature and political positions, are always dangerous. Not following a recipe is OK, but violating basic principles is not. Like cooking, politics has a history that one ignores at one’s peril. Repetition of age-old mistakes is not only insane; it leads to no one asking for “seconds.”

"Governing a great nation is like cooking a small fish – too much handling will spoil it."
(Lao-tzu, Chinese philosopher)

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask, what are we having tonight?"
(CBJ, 2009)
