Seasoned Citizens
By Jim no responsesEveryone knows the importance of things being properly seasoned, and not just food, for them to work well. Firewood comes to mind. Concrete. Veterans: athletic and military. Wine. Cast-iron skillets. Lumber for decks and furniture. Anyway, suffice it to say that "seasoned" is good and it is no different for human beings. One of the few politically correct terms I love is "seasoned" citizens. Not sure when it started being in vogue, but I like it, maybe because I’m creeping ever so quickly (but aren’t we all) to becoming one.
"Senior" wasn’t a bad term. Senior is usually a good thing. In business, military, high school, college, "senior" is the thing to be. I guess it just got "old" for seniors, and someone thought seasoned would be better.
As a chef, I agree, seasoned is better and as a Comfort Brother, some of our best engagements have been with a seasoned crowd. They have good taste AND they taste good, I mean well, I mean they appreciate good food and when it is, they eat well!
The Comfort Brothers are a perfect match for the seasoned among us, who know what they like and don’t like, and don’t mind expressing that it’s a time waster. They like to go out to eat but don’t like the hassle frequently associated with it. They have no time or patience for incompetence, loud noise, idiot young serving staff. They like to be heard when they speak and like to hear what someone else is saying. They like to be cared for in a manner commensurate with their own refined seasoning.
We love ‘em for all these reasons, but mostly because when we’re with them, we’re the handsome young chefs! Bring on the seasoning and the seasoned.
